History
Super Seedlings was originally started in January 1975 by horticulturist Jonathan Leontsinis. Jonathan trained in the Johannesburg Parks and Recreation Department for three years before being sent to Australia for two years to further his studies. While working at the Yarralumla Research Station in Canberra, he was required to “trouble shoot” problems and questions sent in to the department by gardeners and municipalities throughout the country. It was here that he learned about soils and growing media used in nurseries – knowledge that was to stand him in good stead when he began growing his own plants.
Using this vast knowledge obtained from abroad Jonathan developed a special blend of growing medium (soil) for our own stock production. This soil is prepared on our premises using specialised equipment and always to the exact “recipe” as set out by Jonathan. This enables us to avert many problems, which might otherwise arise, and to immediately identify and effectively deal with these when they do, rarely, occur. The result: consistently healthy plants.
Super Seedlings recently had to move premises due to large-scale development on the southern end of Linbro Park. The stunning new premises are still conveniently situated in Linbro Park on the northern end just off Marlboro Drive. Click (here) for address and contact details.
Although the business changed ownership all the original “expert” staff have been retained and all our own growing is still done to the original exacting standards. The new owner Babette Glanvill runs the retail nursery herself and is always on hand to give expert advice.
Jonathan is still involved with the business in an advisory capacity and we are very happy to say he still writes and distributes our newsletter. If you would like to be put on our mailing list please drop us a (mail) or you can click (here) to add yourself to the list.
Although being famous for our seedlings, we also stock a comprehensive range of shrubs, plants and trees. We also stock a wide range of garden tools, seeds and accessories. Both organic and inorganic fertilisers and pest controls are also available.
Our Newsletter
In addition to advising clients who visit us, Jonathan writes our bi-monthly educational newsletter “Growing Tips.” It is emailed to subscribers and endeavours to help them derive more pleasure from gardening by teaching, and helping them to deal effectively with problems when they arise.
An application form is available both at the nursery and on this website for those who wish to subscribe.
